I didn’t mention though you may have guessed that all the parents (and teachers) who attended the entrance ceremony were dressed very well: suit and tie, nice dresses, shiny shoes – the lot (It was a very special occasion.) The only thing that took anything away from this event was the fact that as it was inside a Japanese school building (hall) there’s the policy of taking off your shoes and putting on (indoor) slippers.

Here you have lots of people dressed very nicely with little blue plastic house slippers on their feet.

I don’t know, wearing slippers along with a suit / tie or dress does tend to take something away from the occasion.
